Masindi DHO killer Arrested, Paid 1M By The Late’s Wife Cherotich

The suspect has been identified as Kiplangat Martin, a resident of Rorok village, Kubulwo Parish, Amanag Sub County, Bukwo district.

His arrest followed a confession made by Dr. Abiriga’s wife, Cherotich Betty, who is currently under detention at Masindi CPS.

According to the New Vision, Kiplangat confessed to murdering Dr. Abiriga after being hired by their wife at a cost of Ugshs 1 million.

Following the deal, the suspect told the police that they were initially paid Ushs 500k by Cherotich and promised to pay the balance after the completion of the mission.

It’s also reported that the suspect revealed the colleague who is on the run and whom they executed the deal with.

Upon learning that the suspect was to be taken for scene reconstruction, locals in Masinidi gathered at Masindi Central Police Station by 11 am in anticipation that police would allow them to have a look at him.

The numbers kept growing until 2 pm when the police and army were forced to disperse the crowd before later driving him to the scene.

He was later returned to police, amid tight security.

This brings the number of suspects arrested over the murder of the Masindi district health officer to two after his wife, Betty Cherotich was also apprehended earlier this week.

The police are working around the corner to arrest another male suspect who is on the run.

Dr  Jino Abiriga was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Maracha District.
