Major Road and Bridge Upgrades Announced for Kira-Kyaliwajjala Stretch

Kampala, Uganda The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has unveiled plans for significant upgrades to the road network in the area, promising smoother movement for residents and commuters.

UNRA spokesperson Mr. Allan Ssempebwa announced on Wednesday that the Authority is undertaking the construction of an 18 km road extending from the Kyaliwajjala junction to Matugga, passing through Kasangati. A notable feature of this project is a dual carriageway (four lanes) section from Kyaliwajjala to Kira, spanning approximately two kilometers. There are future plans to extend this dual carriageway all the way to Matugga.

In addition, the project includes the tarmacking of the 5 km Najjeera—Buwaate Spur, which has already been completed. A major bridge will also be constructed at the Kyaliwajjala junction to enhance access towards Naalya and Namugongo.

“This section provides for pedestrian walkways, cycle lanes, a green belt, and street lighting,” Ssempebwa added, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the improvements aimed at enhancing safety and convenience for all road users.
