NIRA Set Out For A Mass National ID Rollout In Schools

In a bid to have all students registered countrywide National Identification Registration Authority is set to carry out a mass registration of all unregistered students in schools this term.

This exercise targets all students in both primary and secondary school who have never been registered.

According to Osbon Mushabe manager of public relations at NIRA, upon registration students below 16 will be issued with NIN numbers and those above 18 will be given National IDs

Osbon Mushabe, manager of NIRA’s public relations, states that upon registration, students under the age of sixteen would receive NIN numbers, and those over the age of eighteen would receive National IDs.

Parents’ NIN number is a key prerequisite in this registration process, thus students have been urged to report for term 1 with a photocopy of their parent’s National ID.

Over 1,400 Graduate from Makerere On Day One

Upon registration, one will be issued a NIN number which Osbon Mushabe says can be used to acquire a birth certificate, UNEB registration, and financial empowerment.

In line with sections 53 and 76 of the Registration of Persons Act, Students, and young citizens have been cautioned against the falsification of information, like age, clans that this may land them in trouble.
