Lukwago Quashes Claims Of Trading FDC For NUP

Erias Lukwago, the Lord Mayor of Kampala City and the interim head of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga group, has refuted reports that the party is about to be sold to the National Unity Platform (NUP).

He said this to reporters on Thursday afternoon at the Katonga Road headquarters in Kampala.

There have been rumors circulating recently that Kizza Besigye, the four-time presidential candidate, and the FDC Katonga group led by Lukwago are officially joining the National Unity platform at Bombo Road. But Lukwago told reporters today at their Katonga offices that the misinformation is meant to split the two parties and urged FDC members and Ugandans to reject this story.

He made it clear that the FDC is still dedicated to working together morally to create a united front as we move toward a power transfer, adding that this does not need selling the party in order to make this happen.

Lukwago urged party members not to be misled, especially at this time when the nation is getting ready for the upcoming general elections in 2026, and to think about the opposition United Front for the right reasons.

‘’I want to assure you as long as I’m still the acting president of FDC, today, the other day, your party will remain solid. Don’t buy into that crap that propaganda which is intended to create a rage between FDC, NUP, and other forces of change.” Lukwago noted.
