The vice president of Uganda, H.E Jessica Alupo, has asked delegates at the NAM Summit to focus on deepening cooperation as the best way to create global wealth
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo was also elected chairman of the minister’s meeting
Speaking at the opening of the ministerial meeting of the 19th summit of the non-allied movement, H.E. Jessica Alupo shared highlights of Uganda’s economy, noting that the country’s outlook is optimistic and full of investment opportunities for everyone.
She says that although starting from a very low base, Uganda has maintained a relatively stable and robust economic growth rate over the years, at an average of 6.2% in the past 37 years.
She also highlighted some of the bottlenecks and other challenges like financial and economic crises, climate change, recurrent food crises, and others that have stunted socio-economic growth.
It is in this regard that she says deepening cooperation is the magic bullet to creating global wealth that can benefit all parts of the globe, hence enhancing the economic capacity of all economies in the world.
In the same vein, as Uganda prepares to assume the chairmanship of the non-allied movement, Jeje Odongo, minister for foreign affairs, outlined some of the key areas Uganda sets to focus on, including international peace and security.
Odongo’s commitment signals Uganda’s intent to revitalize NAM and elevate its voice on critical global issues at a time when some have called into question the continued relevance of the organization in a post-Cold War world. During today’s ministerial meeting, over 58 ministers from member states were in attendance, along with over 28 heads of state, and the government had already registered attendance for tomorrow’s heads of state meeting.
