Hundreds turned away from LDU recruitment in Kasese

Hundreds of youths from the districts that make up the Rwenzori region have flocked to the Resident District Commissioner’s RDC office this morning in Kasese district for the ongoing LDC recruitment exercise.

This comes following the president’s call to recruit LDUs as a measure towards the fight against the ADF rebels who have continued to destabilize the Rwenzori region.

Youths aged 20- 35 from the districts of Kamwenge, Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Bunyangabu, Bundibugyo, and Kasese all thronged the RDCs office today to take part in the LDU recruitment exercise. These expressed readiness to serve their region.

However, these were sent back home until the recruitment exercise was communicated in Kasese. The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of  Kasese district Zeph Mubingwa says the recruitment exercise in Kasese is scheduled in the second phase, unlike the other districts.

These have expressed disappointment in having traveled from faraway districts only to be told to go back, however, they say their spirits to defend their country are not yet broken.

In December last year, President Museveni directed security to reactivate Local Defence Units following the attack on a village in Kamwenge by ADF rebels that left 10 dead.
