Recently while appearing on a local TV station, Paddy Serunjogi alias Sobi revealed his political ambitions noting that he is a changed man.
The incident, which took place on land belonging to Kalisa in Kibaale LC one, Kigumba parish, Maddu sub-county in Gomba district, involved a clash between two opposing groups. Around 50 individuals, armed with sticks, pangas, and spears, allegedly attacked another group that also claimed ownership of the land.
The acting Katonga region police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Karim Majid confirmed the development.
“It is confirmed one Paddy Sserunjogi aka Sobi was killed by a mob,” Majid said in a statement
Details reveal that in 2007, Kalisa purchased the land in question for a total amount of shs100 million. However, it later came to light that he had unknowingly bought it from the wrong person. Initially, Kalisa had paid shs20 million towards the purchase, but upon discovering the ownership issue, he stopped the payments.
Another group of people who claimed to be children and grandchildren of the late Paul Kibi presented land titles claiming the said land and the matter went up to court.
It is said that the other group hired goons from Kisenyi, in Kampala to clear the land and a fight ensued today, Monday leading to Sobi’s death.
Before his demise, Sobi had been involved in various land wrangles in different areas, Many allege Sobi was often used by corrupt government officials to grab land.
The most notable incident was In 2022 when Sobi introduced himself as a soldier from the Special Forces Command to grab a five-acre piece of land from a 94-year-old man in Mukono district.
Sobi led a gang that raided Musa Mwanje’s land – measuring 5 acres on the orders of Fulgensio Ssembajwe, the administrator of the estate of the late John Lule Ssebakijja, a neighbor to Mwanje.
