Chelsea set to sign Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho permanently

Jadon Sancho’s future at Chelsea remains a key talking point as the club weighs its options ahead of the summer transfer window. The England international joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United last summer, with the deal including an obligation to buy should certain performance-related thresholds be met. However, recent reports suggest that Chelsea could opt out of the £25m permanent transfer if they agree to pay a £5m penalty fee to Manchester United.

Despite the existence of this escape clause, Chelsea are still expected to sign Sancho on a permanent basis at the end of the season. The club is likely to be in the market for a new winger in the summer, particularly due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk’s future. The Ukrainian winger was provisionally suspended by the FA in December after testing positive for a banned substance, leaving his long-term availability in doubt.

Sancho made an impressive start to his Chelsea tenure, registering three assists in his first three Premier League appearances. However, his form has since dipped, and the 24-year-old has struggled for consistency. He has not registered a goal contribution since January 4 and has managed only one shot on target since Boxing Day—raising concerns about his long-term impact.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, however, has remained supportive of the winger, praising his efforts and integration into the squad. Speaking in January, Maresca said, “For me, he’s doing very well.” The Italian tactician is reportedly keen to work with Sancho beyond this season, believing he can rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Chelsea’s final decision on Sancho will be crucial. While the £5m escape clause offers a way out, the club’s need for attacking reinforcements—especially with Mudryk’s future uncertain—could see them proceed with the £25m transfer. The coming months will determine whether Sancho can cement his place at Stamford Bridge or if Chelsea will look elsewhere for their attacking solutions.
