Bebe Cool, Alex Muhangi Face Off In Court

Comedian Alex Muhangi appeared before the City Hall Magistrates Court today to address copyright infringement allegations brought by musician Bebe Cool. The dispute centers on claims that Muhangi’s Comedy Store Uganda shared videos of Bebe Cool’s performances without obtaining the artist’s consent.

Bebe Cool, through his legal representative Timothy Sentongo of RSK Associates, asserts that from October 2017 to November 2024, Muhangi broadcasted and distributed his performances across platforms like YouTube and NTV Uganda without authorization. The legal notice demands that Muhangi cease these activities, remove the content, provide a revenue account from the alleged infringements, and compensate Bebe Cool with UGX 579,698,550 for economic damages.

Muhangi acknowledged the legal proceedings on his social media, stating, “As some of you may know, I’m currently facing a legal situation with Bebe Cool regarding the Comedy Store videos of his performance.”

The case underscores the importance of intellectual property rights and the necessity for proper authorization in using artists’ works. Both parties await the court’s decision on this matter.
