By Police in Buhweju District have apprehended four individuals in connection with the murder of a prison warder. The incident occurred between the night of August 3 and the morning of August 4, 2024, in Kakiika Cell, Nsiika Town Council.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, identified the victim as No. 9231, PC Warder Alex Kajwarire, 45, who was assigned to Buhweju Government Prison. The arrested suspects include Innocent Nuwabiine, 19; Lawrence Sabarangira, 38; Godwine Asiimwe, 38; and Specioza Kasande, the deceased’s partner, whose cap was found at the crime scene. All suspects are residents of Kakiika Cell.
According to Tumusiime, Kajwarire was attacked and beaten to death by unknown assailants. His body was discovered abandoned in the middle of the road, bearing visible head injuries and dressed in civilian clothes. The body has been transported to Nkika Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination.
Reports indicate that Kajwarire was involved in a relationship with Specioza Kasande, whose husband, Deus Kasheija, had relocated to Kampala. Allegedly, Kasande’s sons had previously assaulted Kajwarire, warning him to end the relationship. It appears he did not heed the threats.
The investigation into the murder is ongoing.
