Uganda’s political climate begins to intensify ahead of the 2026 general elections, a section of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leaders in West Nile have officially thrown their weight behind Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi for the party’s top seat.
Led by Hon. Muzaid Khemis, the Central Division Mayor and Chairperson for FDC in Arua City, the group announced their endorsement of Mafabi, currently the Secretary General of the party, as their preferred candidate to assume the presidency of the FDC.
Speaking to the media in Arua, Hon. Khemis emphasized that their support for Mafabi stems from his proven leadership track record, deep understanding of the country’s political terrain, and commitment to addressing the unique challenges facing the West Nile sub-region.
The endorsement comes amid rising internal debates within FDC regarding the direction of the party and who should steer it into the 2026 electoral season. Mafabi, a long-time opposition figure and former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, is widely respected for his organizational skills and financial stewardship within the party.
The West Nile FDC leaders noted that Mafabi’s leadership could help revitalize the party’s structures, bridge internal divisions, and offer a formidable alternative in the upcoming national elections.
