“We Shall Not Tolerate Indiscipline”— CDF Muhoozi Warns Candidates

Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has warned political candidates against provoking security forces or flouting Electoral Commission guidelines during the ongoing campaigns, saying the army will not tolerate indiscipline that threatens national stability.

Speaking at the commissioning of 498 officer cadets at the UPDF Basic Military Training School in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District, Gen Kainerugaba said security agencies remain committed to ensuring a peaceful electoral process, but will act firmly against anyone who disregards the law.

“We must warn any candidate, presidential or otherwise, who continuously flouts the electoral commission’s guidelines and tries to provoke security forces that we shall not stand for it,” he said. “The security of the country will not be compromised merely because a particular candidate is campaigning. It doesn’t work like that.

He noted that the ongoing campaigns had so far proceeded smoothly, crediting both the security forces and the public for their cooperation and discipline. “We commend not only the security forces who are working around the clock to ensure we have a peaceful electoral process but also the wanainchi who are abiding by the guidelines,” he said.

The CDF made the remarks during a ceremony at which President Yoweri Museveni commissioned 498 officer cadets — including trainees from Tanzania, Somalia, the Central African Republic, and Mali.

Gen Kainerugaba praised the UPDF’s growing training capacity, noting that it was the second commissioning ceremony within a month. “This is a testament to the UPDF’s improved training capacity, which is a crucial element of our overall national security posture,” he said.

Commenting on recent security incidents in Kasese, Bundibugyo, and Fort Portal, he commended the army for swiftly neutralizing attackers and thanked the public for their support. “We encourage citizens to maintain that spirit. All those who were captured will face the law,” he stated.

He reminded the officers and the public that national security demands constant readiness even in times of calm. “The incidents in the western region are a reminder that we should never relax our guard. Those who desire peace must prepare for war,” he said.

The ceremony, attended by President Museveni and senior military officials, also recognized top-performing officer cadets for excellence in fieldwork, academics, and leadership.
