Voters Urged to Verify Details as Electoral Roadmap Gains Momentum

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially commenced the nationwide display of the National Voters Register and the Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), a key step in Uganda’s preparations for the 2025/2026 General Elections.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon announced that the exercise will run from April 25 to May 15, 2025, covering 98.4% of Uganda’s 38,315 polling stations. The remaining 620 stations, representing 1.6%, are facing technical delays but will receive their full 21 days of register display once operational.

“This is a very important exercise, which could determine whether you vote on polling day or not,” said Justice Byabakama, urging voters to actively participate in the verification process.

The display aims to allow citizens to confirm the accuracy of their details, verify their photos, and report ineligible names including those of deceased persons, underage individuals, or non-residents wrongly included in the register.

Alongside the general voter register, the EC is also displaying registers for three SIG categories—Youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Older Persons—at the village level from April 25 to May 8, 2025.

Voters missing polling stations will have access to a list displayed in their parish or can use the EC online portal to select and assign a polling station. After the display period, a supplementary list of recommended additions or deletions will be published from May 16 to 26, followed by final decisions from Parish/Ward Tribunals.

Justice Byabakama emphasized that no fresh voter registrations or transfers will be accepted during this period and called for public cooperation in ensuring a clean, credible register.

The EC also invited national and international observers to apply for accreditation to monitor the electoral process, with guidelines available on the Commission’s website.

“As we move forward in implementing the electoral roadmap, the display of a clean Voters Register remains a cornerstone of a peaceful, free, and fair election,” Justice Byabakama concluded.

The Commission is running an extensive awareness campaign across media platforms to encourage high turnout and stakeholder participation during this critical phase of the electoral process.
