The suspect, 55-year-old Godfrey Mutungi, is alleged to have fatally stabbed his wife, Jennifer Busingye, 48, multiple times on the night of April 16 following a violent confrontation inside their home.
According to preliminary police findings, the couple long-time residents of the village and parents of 14 children locked themselves inside their house before the argument escalated to fatal violence.
Wamala Region Police Spokesperson ASP Racheal Kawala revealed that neighbors reported hearing desperate screams but were unable to intervene in time.
“They locked themselves inside. Neighbors heard the commotion and rushed to help, but by the time they gained access, Jennifer had sustained multiple stab wounds to her face, chest, and head,” Kawala said.
The victim succumbed to her injuries while being rushed for medical attention. Her body was taken to Kassanda Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
Mutungi, who also serves as the defense chairperson for Ndaiga village, fled the scene and remains at large.
“We are actively hunting for Mutungi Godfrey,” ASP Kawala confirmed. “Such acts of domestic violence are abhorrent. We urge the public to share any information that could lead to his arrest. No one is above the law.”
