UPDF has released a list of successful candidates to Join the Army

The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has announced the list of successful applicants aspiring to join the Ugandan army. Out of an impressive 243,000 applicants, 197,000 were initially accepted for further screening. After a rigorous selection process, 140,000 candidates remain in contention for the 9,627 available positions in the infantry forces.

The recruitment exercise will be conducted across 10 zones, encompassing all 135 districts and 11 cities in Uganda. The allocation of recruitment quotas is based on the population proportion of each district and city, with the Eastern and Western regions leading in the number of applications.

“We are pleased with the response from the public, especially from the Eastern and Western regions,” stated Col. Deo AkiiKi, Deputy Defence Public Information Officer. “However, we note that the Central region had a poor turnout. We urge all eligible candidates to take advantage of this opportunity to serve in the UPDF.”

Eligibility criteria for applicants include Ugandan citizenship, an age range of 18-22 years, a minimum education level of Senior Four (S.4) with passing grades in English and Mathematics, medical fitness, discipline, and a clean criminal record.

Col. AkiiKi emphasized the importance of these standards, noting, “We are looking for candidates who are committed to serving their country and upholding the values of the UPDF. Patriotism, nationalism, and Pan-Africanism are the cornerstones of our service.”

The UPDF leadership has urged all eligible candidates to seize this opportunity, reiterating the call for increased participation, particularly in regions with lower turnout rates. “We wish those who will succeed in this exercise good luck in their military careers,” Col. AkiiKi added.

The names of successful applicants will be displayed on district and city notice boards, directing shortlisted candidates to designated recruitment centers for final interviews. This transparent process ensures that the most qualified and dedicated individuals are selected to join the UPDF ranks, reinforcing the force’s commitment to excellence and national service.

As the recruitment progresses, the UPDF remains dedicated to fostering a sense of duty and commitment among its members, ensuring that the new recruits will uphold the high standards and values that define the Ugandan military.
