The UPDF has pitched a statue In recognition of President Museveni’s contribution to the growth of the Greater Ankole region,
The UPDF Engineers Brigade assembled the monument in Rushere Town Council, Kiruhura District, to honor President Museveni’s efforts in encouraging cattle farmers in the cattle corridor to switch from nomadism to dairy farming to improve their socioeconomic livelihood.
At the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, Museveni expressed his satisfaction with the gift and pointed out that Rushere was a fitting location for the monument because it was there that he began his endeavor of training farmers at the close of 1966.
Additionally, he said that the monument’s erection was perfect since it would educate the next generation about the socioeconomic shift that the residents of greater Ankole have undergone.
The president highlighted concern over the drop in socio-economic transformation observed in the cattle corridor, citing the inability of the populace to transition from free-range grazing to zero grazing and wealth fragmentation after the death of the family patriarch.
He persuaded cattle farmers that dairy farming is the sole means to end poverty, stating that if they practice zero grazing, they can make a lot of money on a tiny plot of land.
Recognizing President Museveni for his role in educating the people of Ankole, Minister of Defense and Veteran’s Affairs Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja noted that the message has now spread to every part of the nation.
