By The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has passed out 180 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who completed a three-month ideological training course aimed at strengthening leadership, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the force.
The graduates were drawn from various units under the 3 Infantry Division and underwent training designed to enhance both tactical competence and ideological clarity.

Officiating at the pass-out ceremony, the 3 Infantry Division Commander, Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, underscored the importance of the course in reinforcing the values that guide the UPDF. He said the strength of any army lies not only in its weaponry but in the quality of its Non-Commissioned Officer corps, which he described as the backbone of military effectiveness.
Maj Gen Sserunkuma urged the graduates to embrace continuous learning and to inspire their colleagues through leadership by example.
“Training is the heartbeat of the force,” he said. “Train your men with whatever little you know.”
The Division Training and Operations Officer, Colonel Santurino Tumuranzye, appealed to the graduates to put the knowledge acquired into practice as a way of advancing their military careers and strengthening unit performance.
During the ceremony, outstanding trainees were recognized for exemplary performance. Sergeant Bwabale emerged best in drill, Lance Corporal Oyaka Boniface was named best in range, Private Adeke Shalom was awarded best female student, while Private Kitale Gordon was crowned the overall best student of the course.
The event was attended by the Commandant of the Anti Stock Theft Unit, ACP Francis Chemusto, Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Moroto, Mr Aol Mark Musooka, as well as senior and junior officers from the UPDF and the Uganda Police Force.
