UPC Revises Party Primaries Schedule to Include Village Branch Executives

The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has revised the dates for its internal party primaries to allow for the inclusion of village branch executives as voters, in line with Executive Order No. 001/2025 issued by Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena.

In a press release issued on Friday, UPC Party Electoral Commission Chairman Hajji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud announced a new schedule that extends the primary election calendar to facilitate broader participation and ensure all aspiring candidates have time to campaign and engage grassroots leaders.

According to the revised timetable, stakeholder meetings will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, followed by the primary elections for Members of Parliament, LC V Chairpersons, City Mayors, Division City Mayors, and Municipal Mayors on Saturday, August 16, 2025. The results from these primaries will be declared on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

On Monday, August 18, 2025, UPC will conduct primary elections and declare results for various local government positions, including District Councillors, Municipal/Division Councillors, Sub County/Division Chairpersons, and Sub County/Division Councillors.

All voting will be conducted at the parish level, ensuring accessibility for participants across the country.

The UPC leadership emphasized that the decision to adjust the schedule reflects the party’s commitment to inclusive and democratic processes, particularly at the grassroots level.

“We wish all candidates the best,” the statement concluded.

UPC remains one of Uganda’s oldest political parties, advocating a social democratic agenda that promotes equality, national unity, and access to public resources for all citizens.
