The Uganda People’s Congress Party has distanced itself from taking part in the planned activities organized by the United Forces of Change
The planned activities announced yesterday in a joint press conference included a demonstration to express dissatisfaction with the current state of infrastructure, especially city roads.
Speaking to the media at their party head offices in Kampala, Faizal Muzeyi, the party’s head of media and communications, notes that UPC has never been officially engaged or invited to join this change-seeking force.
Yesterday, in a joint press conference at the Dr. Kizza Besigye Katonga Road offices, representatives from the Uganda People’s Congress led by Peter Walubiri, who claims to be the legitimate president of the UPC, expressed support for the United Forces of Change.
However, in retaliation, Faizal Muzeyi, Head of Media and Communications at UPC, referred to these as masqueraders and fortune seekers who don’t represent UPC as a party.
Faizo further stressed that the party has never been officially contacted about joining the United Forces of Change or taking part in any activity in that regard. He also said the objectives of the United Forces are not known to their party, thus distancing themselves from any activity organized by the platform.
Faizo also used the opportunity to reveal some of the party activities intended for different regions as part of their preparations for the 2026 polls.
“Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena will be on his ongoing nationwide mobilization tours on Saturday, January 13, 2024, which is in line with the demands of the 2025–2026 electoral roadmap released by the Independent Electoral Commission. This is the third presidential mobilization visit after Apac and Amolatar, respectively. The President is now set to visit the Kigezi sub-region in the last week of this month (January). We want to appreciate UPC regional and district leadership for working hand in hand with the National Secretariat to make the national mobilization tours a success.” Faizo Said
Like the other opposition political parties, the fallout in UPC that later birthed the Walubiri faction greatly stems from the 4.8 billion that is alleged to have come from Museveni to the Akena faction to shore up a political cooperation deal between the ruling NRM party and UPC.
