As Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) is turning to its livestock heritage to capture voters’ attention. The party officially launched its campaigns following a strategic retreat in Lira City for parliamentary and local government candidates.
Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena told candidates that revitalizing the livestock and cattle economy could transform livelihoods in regions such as Teso, Acholi, Lango, Karamoja, and West Nile. “Cattle is a bank of wealth with value that continues to appreciate,” he said, positioning the party as a champion of economic empowerment through agriculture.

The retreat, held at Senior Quarters in Lira on November 8, aimed to equip candidates with the UPC’s campaign message, centered on welfare, investing in people, and building a Uganda that works for all. Akena called for unity, focus, and “total sacrifice” from party members, urging them to support candidates from campaigns to polling day.
“The time has come for closing the chapter and opening the future; for a lifetime, for a generation, and for a nation,” Akena told attendees.
The UPC’s campaign strategy emphasizes nationwide outreach, promising equitable access to education, health, employment, and shelter, while making the livestock economy a central pillar of its 2026 agenda. The party has assured full backing for candidates, with Akena personally leading campaign efforts.
