This marks a significant increase of 103,250 candidates compared to last year’s figure of 1,308,998, reflecting a 7.31% growth in overall candidature.

According to a press statement issued by UNEB’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, more than half of the registered learners 719,721 candidates (51%) are funded through government programs including Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the Uganda Post O’Level Education and Training Program (UPOLET).

Kalule noted that registration is still ongoing, with the final deadline set for the end of July, albeit with a surcharge for late entries. She urged heads of examination centres to ensure that no learner is left unregistered.

“Amendments to candidate records can still be made free of charge until the end of this month and must be submitted through the UNEB online portal,” she added.

In a separate reminder to secondary schools, UNEB advised heads of UCE centres to compile and submit Continuous Assessment scores for both Senior Three and Senior Four learners, particularly Term II marks, before the school term closes.

The growing candidate numbers underscore the expanding access to education under Uganda’s universal education policy, while also presenting logistical and administrative challenges ahead of the national examinations scheduled later this year.
