This is the story of a young athlete from Kampala who rose to international fame, blending athletic excellence with a dash of personality.

Early Life and Athletic Beginnings

Born in Soroti and raised in Kampala, Tarsis Orogot’s path to becoming an elite sprinter began on the rugby pitch. Recognizing his exceptional speed, a coach recommended he try sprinting, and Orogot quickly excelled. At just 14 years old, he won the 100m at the Kampala UAF Trials with a time of 10.6 seconds, signaling his potential to become one of Uganda’s premier sprinters.

In 2019, Orogot, an alumnus of St. Lawrence, made a bold move to Nairobi, Kenya, to train full-time. Despite skepticism from local coaches and officials who doubted his ability to compete internationally, Orogot remained undeterred. His motto, “Just a boy with a dream,” reflects his determination to prove the naysayers wrong and achieve greatness in sprinting.
