Uganda has renewed its call for global justice, fairness, and reform of international governance systems as it concluded the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordinating Bureau at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Thursday.
In his closing statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo said the two-day meeting reaffirmed NAM’s central role in championing equality, peace, and solidarity among nations particularly those in the Global South.

“Over the past two days, we have reviewed progress from the 2024 NAM Summit in Kampala and reaffirmed that NAM remains indispensable in defending multilateralism and the sovereign equality of all states,” Odongo said.
He emphasized the need to reform global institutions such as the United Nations, international financial systems, and development banks to make them more inclusive and representative.
“The world must move toward a fairer system that reflects the aspirations of all nations,” he added.
Delegates also reaffirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for renewed efforts to implement the two-state solution. Odongo commended countries including Saudi Arabia, France, and Egypt for their peace mediation efforts, citing the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit as a key step toward ending the war on Gaza.
The ministers further urged the UN General Assembly to adopt the International Covenant on the Right to Development, describing it as a milestone toward equitable global progress.
As Uganda nears the end of its NAM chairmanship, Odongo pledged that the country will continue promoting unity and fairness on the international stage.
“Uganda will continue to be an impartial and effective steward of our movement. Together, let us carry forward the spirit of Kampala—the spirit of cooperation, solidarity, and shared commitment to a just, peaceful, and prosperous world,” he said.
The meeting, held under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” brought together foreign ministers, ambassadors, and senior delegates from NAM member states to discuss global peace, development, and South-South cooperation.
