Uganda, Indonesia Pledge Stronger Cooperation in Trade, Minerals, and Education

Uganda, Indonesia Pledge Stronger Cooperation in Trade, Minerals, and Education Uganda and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation following a meeting between Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), and H.E. Witjaksono Adji, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Kenya and concurrently accredited to Uganda.

Ambassador Adji, who presented copies of his credentials on Wednesday, expressed Indonesia’s interest in expanding collaboration with Uganda in mineral development, education, and agricultural research.

Hon. Oryem welcomed the envoy and commended Indonesia for its continued support to Uganda, particularly through scholarship programmes that benefit Ugandan students and civil servants. He also highlighted Uganda’s vast mineral potential, investment prospects, and trade opportunities, urging Indonesian investors to tap into the country’s growing sectors.

“Uganda offers immense potential for mutually beneficial partnerships in minerals, trade, and tourism,” Oryem said. “We encourage more Asian investors and tourists to explore the opportunities our country has to offer.”

The minister further reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation mechanisms, including the establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) to formalize and strengthen diplomatic, economic, and technical collaboration between the two nations.

The engagement marks another step in Uganda’s efforts to diversify its global partnerships and attract foreign investment from Southeast Asia.
