By The Ministry of Education and Sports has scheduled the Senior Five selection process for February 20 and 21. This announcement was made by the Minister for Education and Sports, Ms. Janet Museveni, while releasing the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results at State Lodge, Nakasero, Kampala.
In 2023, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) conducted two sets of examinations—one under the new Lower Secondary Curriculum and another under the old curriculum—to accommodate learners who failed the 2023 UCE exams and provide them with an opportunity to transition to A-Level.
Ms. Museveni instructed the selection committee to ensure that all candidates who sat the 2024 UCE examination under the old curriculum and qualified for post-UCE placement are considered during the selection process. She also confirmed that the first term for the Senior Five class of 2025 will commence on March 3, 2025.
The Lower Secondary Curriculum was introduced on February 3, 2020, but its implementation was disrupted by the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March of the same year. Under the revised grading system, students are assessed as follows: A for exceptional achievement, B for outstanding performance, C for satisfactory performance, D for basic understanding, and E for elementary understanding.
The adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in 2020 necessitated changes in the assessment approach. The new evaluation framework incorporates Continuous Assessment (CA) and Project Work, in addition to the existing End-of-Cycle examination.
According to data from the Executive Director of UNEB, Mr. Daniel Odongo, out of 9,742 candidates who registered for the 2024 UCE examination, 8,113 passed while 1,629 failed. Additionally, UNEB reported that 350,146 candidates—representing 98.05% of those who sat for the exams under the new curriculum—successfully passed, and their transcripts reflect “Result 1.”
