In a statement released on Monday, UCAA urged all departing passengers to plan their travel early and allow extra time for airport procedures. “Passengers scheduled to depart during this period are advised to plan for adequate time to avoid the risk of missing their flights,” the advisory stated.
With hundreds of pilgrims expected to pass through the airport, many accompanied by family and well-wishers, UCAA anticipates increased traffic both within the terminal and surrounding areas. The authority is reminding international travelers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure, noting that most airlines close check-in one hour before takeoff.

To manage the large crowds and ensure smooth operations, UCAA has designated a specific gathering area within the airport’s car park for pilgrims. Only vehicles with official access stickers will be allowed into this space. Other accompanying persons will be directed to a separate holding area to prevent overcrowding and maintain security protocols.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the statement added.
The advisory comes as Uganda joins other countries in sending Muslim faithful to Saudi Arabia for Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam. The pilgrimage is expected to draw thousands of worshippers from the region, making this one of the busiest travel periods at Uganda’s main airport.
Authorities have reassured all travelers that measures are in place to ensure both efficiency and safety throughout the pilgrimage window.
