By At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, near Namboole interchange on the Kampala-Jinja route, a Fuso Box Body truck registered as UBD 520H collided with 13 cars and 2 motorcycles, resulting in a tragedy that claimed two lives and injured dozens more.
The Fuso truck, which was moving maize from Nalya to Namboole, lost control at the roundabout, neglected to brake, and crashed with the mass of cars, causing a chaotic and deadly occurrence, according to the initial accounts from first responders at the scene.
“Two people have died in an accident involving a M/V Reg. UBD 520H Fuso Box Body, thirteen (13) other cars, and two (02) motorcycles, which happened this evening, 7/12/2023, on the Northern Bypass-Namboole Round at about 7:00 p.m.
Two people were killed after the driver of M/V Reg No. UBD 520H, which was hauling corn from Nalya to Namboole, lost control at the roundabout, neglected to brake, and collided with 13 automobiles and two motorcycles, according to preliminary reports from our first responders, police said in a statement.
Two people have been recognized as the deceased: a female passenger on one of the motorcycles involved in the collision and an unnamed male. The bodies have been moved to the mortuary in Mulago City.
Unknown numbers of people were hurt in the collision, and they were taken straight to Gwatilo and Mulago Hospitals to receive treatment. It’s still unclear how serious their injuries are.
The Fuso truck and other involved cars in the Namboole accident have been transported to the Bweyogere Police Station for a comprehensive examination as part of the ongoing inquiry into the event.
The driver of the Fuso vehicle is being sought by law enforcement after he allegedly left the site of the collision. Authorities are pleading with anyone who knows the driver’s whereabouts to come forward and help with the inquiry.
Traffic in the vicinity has been severely disrupted by the accident, leading law enforcement authorities to issue advisories advising commuters to find alternate routes while the investigation and cleanup are being conducted.
The unfortunate accident’s chain of events is being carefully pieced together by the Ugandan Police Force. The investigation’s main goal is to ascertain what caused the driver to lose control and forget to apply the brakes, which resulted in the large crash.
