The accused, Ssembuze Elly and Miyingo Vicent appeared in court on Monday 19th May following their arrest by a joint operation involving the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). They will remain in custody until May 26, 2025, when they are expected to reappear in court.
According to prosecutors, the charges stem from an incident that occurred around midnight on April 6, 2025, when the two men allegedly accompanied by armed individuals forcefully demolished the home of Robert Twambale and his family, who have occupied the disputed property for over three decades.
The destruction reportedly included not only the family’s main residence but also auxiliary structures such as a poultry house and pigsty. Various household items were also reported stolen during the attack.
The violent eviction is said to be part of an ongoing land wrangle between the family of the late Bethuel Nsubuga, Twambale’s father, and that of the late Cyprian Ssemwanga, both of whom claim ownership of the 2.6-acre parcel of land in Namulanda.
