. Two Former UMEME Workers Arrested Over Power Line Vandalism in Bombo

A joint security operation on Thursday morning led to the arrest of two former UMEME employees suspected of involvement in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the Bombo area.

According to police, the operation was conducted at around 7:30am on November 14 and targeted individuals believed to be behind the recent theft of power lines and distribution equipment.

The suspects were identified as Kamoga Godfrey, a resident of Bajjo Kisingiri Village, and Kasaga Geoffrey, a resident of Namaliga West Village. Both previously worked with UMEME and are alleged to have used their technical knowledge to aid the theft of electrical materials.

Security personnel said the suspects cooperated with investigators and led them to storage sites in Nkokonjeru and Bajjo, where stolen electrical equipment was recovered. The exhibits included rolls of bare conductors, three-phase ABC wires, small single-phase ABC cables, pliers and other tools used for illegal power connections.

Police say the recovered materials are linked to vandalism incidents that have contributed to persistent power outages and costly repairs in affected districts.

The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the CID Headquarters in Kibuli for further interrogation. Investigations are underway to establish whether they are part of a wider network targeting the national electricity grid.

Authorities have recently intensified operations against the vandalism of electricity infrastructure, warning that the crime poses significant financial losses and risks to public safety. More arrests are expected as security agencies pursue additional suspects.
