According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended in areas known for criminal activity. “The individuals arrested were found engaging in acts such as smoking opium and robbery,” he said in a statement released Tuesday morning.
The suspects are currently being held at Mukono Police Station, where they face charges related to illegal drug use and theft. Onyango noted that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.
He added that the operation was part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and improve community safety in Mukono and surrounding areas. “We are committed to maintaining law and order. This operation is one of several that will be conducted to rid our communities of criminal elements,” Onyango said.
Residents in Namataba and Kungu have previously expressed concern over rising insecurity, with incidents of mugging and drug-related crimes becoming more frequent. Security agencies have responded with increased patrols and intelligence-led operations to address the concerns.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station as efforts to maintain peace and security continue.
