In a significant development in the football world, Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially announced his decision to leave Liverpool FC at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old right-back, a product of Liverpool’s academy, is poised to join Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer, marking the end of a two-decade-long association with the Merseyside club.
Alexander-Arnold made his debut for Liverpool in 2016 and has since amassed over 350 appearances, contributing significantly to the team’s success. His tenure includes two Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League victory, an FA Cup, two League Cups, and a FIFA Club World Cup.

In a heartfelt message shared on his social media platforms, Alexander-Arnold expressed gratitude to the club and its supporters:
“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”
He further elaborated on his reasons, citing a desire for new challenges and personal growth. Despite the impending move, he emphasized his commitment to giving his all for Liverpool until the season’s end.
Reports indicate that Alexander-Arnold has agreed to a five-year contract with Real Madrid, with an annual salary of approximately £7.5 million after tax. The move will see him reunite with England teammate Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Liverpool’s efforts to retain the defender included a substantial contract offer, but Alexander-Arnold remained steadfast in seeking a new chapter in his career. His departure follows recent contract renewals by key players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, signaling a period of transition for the club.
Real Madrid, aiming to bolster their defensive lineup, view Alexander-Arnold’s acquisition as a strategic move, especially in light of injuries to existing squad members. The club is optimistic about integrating him into their setup ahead of upcoming competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup.
