Traffic Restrictions Announced Ahead of the Budget Reading

The Traffic Police have issued a detailed traffic management plan for Thursday, June 12, 2025, as the nation prepares for a high-profile event at Kololo Independence Grounds.

According to a statement released by Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura, several key roads will either be restricted or closed to ensure smooth flow and secure movement of invited guests and dignitaries. The plan will be in effect from 5:00am to 7:00pm on the day of the event.

Jinja Road and Yusuf Lule Road will remain open to normal traffic, as will John Babiiha Road. However, motorists will not be allowed to access Lower Kololo Terrace from John Babiiha Road, and Upper Kololo Terrace will be completely closed to all traffic.

Wampewo Avenue will be cut off at the Housing Finance Bank junction and at the Kololo traffic lights to control movement near the venue.

The statement outlines separate access routes and parking areas for Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs), VIPs, and invited guests. VVIPs with designated vehicle stickers will use the western gate and park behind the main VIP seating area. VIPs and some invited guests will enter through the eastern gate along Wampewo Avenue.

Additional parking has been designated at Uganda Management Institute (UMI) and Hotel Africana for other guests.

“All motorists are urged to adhere strictly to these guidelines to ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid inconvenience,” Kananura said.

The public has been encouraged to cooperate with traffic officers deployed on site and to use alternative routes where necessary. The Police say these measures are necessary for the safety and efficiency of the national function expected to draw high-level attendees.
