A fatal road accident on the Jinja Highway in Mukono District has claimed the lives of three people and left ten others injured, following a multi-vehicle crash at Wantoni Junction on Tuesday night.

According to a press statement released by SP Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the crash occurred at around 9:00 PM on May 20, involving a Mitsubishi Fuso truck and three Toyota Hiace vans, along with five motorcycles and roadside food vendors.
The truck, registration number UBB 422U, reportedly lost control at Wantoni Junction, veered into the opposite lane, and plowed through multiple vehicles and roadside stalls. The impact left three people dead on the spot and seriously injured ten others, including pedestrians, boda boda riders, passengers, and vehicle drivers.
The other vehicles involved in the crash were identified as UBP 359W, UAW 042E, and UAQ 398L — all Toyota Hiace vans, commonly known as commuter taxis. The five motorcycles, all heavily damaged, were also listed: UFL 976T, UFN 916P, UEU 698W, UDK 495B, and UDZ 777A.

The injured were rushed to Mukono General Hospital and other nearby health facilities for emergency treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
All vehicles and motorcycles involved have been impounded and towed to Mukono Police Station parking yard for inspection as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Police have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution and observe traffic regulations, especially when approaching high-risk areas during peak hours. The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety continues to investigate the accident and is expected to release a comprehensive report upon conclusion.
