By Three bodyguards of the National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentantu alias Bobi Wine have been further remanded until April 16th, 2025.
Today while appearing before Masaka Grade One Magistrate Abudallah Kayiira, The state prosecution informed the court that investigations were still underway and they asked the court to adjourn and further remand the suspects citing their interference in the investigations once granted bail.
However, the National Unity Platform to their X handle to condemn the further remanding of their colleagues on a case that dates back to 2024.
“The matter of our comrades has been adjourned to April 16th, 2025. They have asked the court to respect their right to a fair hearing and have equally demanded a speedy trial.
The state prosecution claims that investigations are underway yet the fabricated case of “aggravated robbery” dates back to May 2024. Our legal team has asked the state prosecution to table their evidence for the trial to proceed”- part of the post read
The suspects including Achilleo Kivumbi, Grace Wakabi alias Smart-wa Bobi, and Gadafi Mugumya, were in February charged before Masaka Grade One Magistrate Abudallah Kayiira who remanded them to prison with five counts of robbery and assault to female journalists.
These were arrested from different parts of Kampala before they were transferred to Masaka Central Police Station.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects assaulted and damaged a video camera of Zainabu Namusaazi, a journalist working with Next Media group, and shattered a smartphone belonging to Margret Kayondo, a correspondent with Radio Simba.
The other charges include stealing two more smartphones, theft of 200,000 shillings, and causing grievous body harm to three other people whom they allegedly trounced in a scuffle that ensued at the burial.
