The operation was part of a wider crackdown on suspected dealers who allegedly sell opium to criminal gangs in the area. Police said the group had been disguising themselves as charcoal sellers at Kayunga Market, where the illegal trade was reportedly taking place.
“Exhibits of suspected narcotic substances were recovered during the operation,” Ms. Kawala said, adding that the suspects are currently detained at Wakiso Police Station as investigations continue.
She noted that similar disruptive intelligence-led operations are ongoing across the district as part of efforts to curb rising cases of drug abuse and related criminal activity.
Police have urged the public to report any suspicious individuals involved in the sale or distribution of illegal drugs to help maintain safety and security in local communities.
