Police in Wakiso District are investigating a suspected theft involving private security guards after officers recovered an abandoned rifle and several stolen welding machines in Nkowe Village, Kaliti Parish, Mende Subcounty.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the firearm is believed to have been abandoned by guards attached to Fountain Security, a company contracted to protect Kham Resort, a welding and brickmaking enterprise.

Preliminary findings indicate that on November 17, 2025, unidentified individuals stole welding machines, grinders and electrical wires from the company premises and fled to an unknown location. Later that night, a police patrol team intercepted two unidentified men carrying three welding machines, two grinders and wires suspected to be part of the stolen property.
“The suspects took off after seeing the officers, leaving the items behind. Our team recovered the exhibits and secured them,” SP Kawala said.
Police suspect that the private guards on duty may have participated in the theft, given that their rifle and uniforms were later found abandoned inside their room.
Both the firearm and the recovered machines have been kept as exhibits as investigators intensify the hunt for the suspects.
“A case of theft has been registered, and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible,” Kawala said.
Police have urged companies to conduct regular checks on their private security personnel and promptly report suspicious behaviour to prevent similar incidents.
