KAMPALA | The High Court in Kampala has once again postponed the high-profile murder trial of Molly Katanga, accused of the murder of her husband, Henry Katanga, due to technical difficulties.
The trial was delayed when the court was unable to establish a stable videoconference connection with Ms. Katanga, who has been attending the proceedings remotely from Luzira Prison due to health concerns. Despite several attempts to connect, persistent technical issues forced the court to adjourn until tomorrow.
If these technical challenges continue, the court may require Ms. Katanga to attend the trial in person.
Ms. Katanga, who sustained severe injuries and was found unconscious at the crime scene, is accused of shooting her husband. She maintains her innocence, while her daughters, Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi, also face charges as alleged accomplices.
Richard Ambayo, the pathologist who conducted the postmortem on the late Henry Katanga, was scheduled to testify as the seventh witness. He is now expected to take the stand tomorrow.
Ms. Katanga’s remote participation was granted due to her fragile health following over five surgeries related to the injuries she sustained during the incident.
Prosecution lead, Jonathan Muwaganya, expressed frustration over the delays, accusing the defense of using stalling tactics to prolong the trial. “The defense’s continual delays are unacceptable and appear to be a tactic to obstruct the proceedings,” Muwaganya stated.
The court’s session tomorrow is expected to address the ongoing technical issues and determine whether Ms. Katanga will need to appear in person, a decision that could significantly impact the direction of the trial. Both sides are preparing for what is anticipated to be a contentious exchange.
