His body was discovered early Monday morning inside a septic tank at his home in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. Authorities say the scene is being treated as a suspected suicide, though a full investigation is underway to establish the precise cause and timeline of events.

Ahimbisibwe’s death comes months after he was suspended from duty and placed under investigation following a domestic violence incident in 2023, during which he allegedly shot and seriously injured his wife in a domestic altercation that turned violent. The incident shocked the nation and raised serious questions about gun safety, domestic abuse, and mental health support within the police force.

Following the shooting, Ahimbisibwe was arrested and charged but later released on bail as the case proceeded in court. His suspension from the Uganda Police Force was immediate, and he was removed from his position as DPC at the Jinja Road Police Station one of Kampala’s most prominent and demanding law enforcement posts.

The circumstances of his suspension were linked directly to the alleged shooting incident. Sources close to the matter said that Ahimbisibwe had become increasingly erratic in behavior in the months leading up to the confrontation. His removal from command was part of broader efforts within the police force to address issues of abuse of power and internal misconduct.

Despite stepping away from active duty, Ahimbisibwe continued to face intense public scrutiny and mounting legal pressure, as the case against him remained unresolved. His presence in court and the media spotlight painted a picture of a man once at the height of his career now grappling with the consequences of a deeply personal and violent episode.

Neighbors and acquaintances say he had recently become withdrawn, and some reported observing signs of emotional distress. One neighbor, who requested anonymity, described him as “a man consumed by guilt and isolation.”

The Uganda Police has confirmed that investigations into Ahimbisibwe’s death are ongoing, and further details will be shared with the public in due course. They have also appealed for calm and respect for the family’s privacy during this time of mourning.

“This is a tragic end to a complicated and painful story,” said one senior officer who had served alongside Ahimbisibwe. “It’s a reminder that the system must do more to support officers not just hold them accountable.”
