Suspect Killed, Two Civilians Injured in Violent Robbery in Lweza

Police in Kajjansi Division are investigating a case of aggravated robbery that left two people injured and one suspects dead in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality.

The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, April 11, at around 6:20 PM, when two unidentified men riding a red Haojue motorcycle, registration number UGG 774A, attacked a parked Toyota Premio (UBE 079Z) outside N & M Unisex Salon. The assailants, armed with an AK-47 rifle, shattered the vehicle’s windows and stole two bags before attempting to flee the scene.

Their escape was interrupted by a brave boda boda rider, Tumwesigye Peter, 27, who tried to confront them. During the scuffle, the suspects opened fire, injuring Tumwesigye and another civilian, Abdul Swabur, 18. Both were rushed to Mildmay Hospital, and Swabur was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further treatment.

A combined effort by boda boda riders, residents, and police officers led to a rapid pursuit of the attackers. One of the suspects was gunned down during the chase, while the other managed to escape and is currently on the run.

Security personnel recovered several items at the scene of the incident, including an AK-47 rifle, the red motorcycle used in the robbery, a cartridge, a national identity card believed to belong to one of the assailants, two mobile phones, a red bag used to conceal the weapon, and a black bag with a ring spanner belonging to the robbery victim.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire commended the swift and courageous response of the community and boda boda riders, saying their actions played a crucial role in neutralizing one suspect and recovering key evidence.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police urging the public to share any information that may lead to the arrest of the second suspect.
