A supplemental budget of 3.5 trillion shillings was proposed for legislative approval last week by Henry Musasizi, the state minister for general duties in the Ministry of Finance, in an unexpected move.
The State House is expected to receive an astounding 485 billion shillings, which makes up a sizeable chunk of the budget; therefore, the distribution of cash has raised worries.
During the financial distribution, it was discovered that the State House has already spent 100 billion shillings on expenses that are categorized as secret and not known to the general public.
This has raised questions about transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
Speaking to journalists, Ismail Kirya says sectors like education and health should be prioritized in such situations.
He has also challenged the parliamentary leadership to stand firm against such expenditures.
Other notable allocations in the supplementary budget include 13 billion shillings for the Higher Students Financing Board and 144 billion shillings for the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) for preparatory activities related to the population census, and 26.7 billion shillings for preparatory activities ahead of international conferences in Uganda, including the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and G77 plus one, under the Office of the President, among others.
