The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has dismissed claims that it detained two journalists from Mukono District over a story they allegedly published about an Inspector of Schools.
The clarification follows a statement issued by the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) on Sunday, July 20, 2025, alleging that journalists Eric Yiga and Ivan Kimbowa were being held by SH-ACU in connection with their reporting.

In a press release issued today, SH-ACU said the allegations were baseless, noting that while it is conducting investigations in Mukono District, the matter under inquiry “neither relates to the mentioned journalists nor has it led to their arrest and detention.”
The Unit further invited UJA to provide clear details supporting its claims so the matter can be investigated to identify those responsible for any wrongdoing.
“SH-ACU leadership invites UJA to present clear information of its claim, so that the matter is investigated to establish those responsible,” the statement reads.
The Unit also used the opportunity to commend the media fraternity for its continued support in the fight against corruption.
“SH-ACU wishes to appreciate UJA and the entire media fraternity for their support to the Unit and contribution in fighting and exposing corruption and its perpetrators in the country,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns from journalists over harassment linked to investigative reporting on corruption and governance.
