Bukoto Central MP Richard Ssebamala has been duly nominated to contest for the same seat on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket, dispelling claims that he had been denied the party endorsement.
Ssebamala clarified that his nomination was duly signed by his district DP chairperson in accordance with the party constitution, despite internal disagreements within the party.
“As you are well aware, this is a season of politics and change of leadership. Whichever the president will be, I have been nominated as a Member of Parliament, and I will work with any government as an MP,” he said after his nomination.

Ssebamala, who earlier this year had a public fallout with DP President General Norbert Mao following a heated contest for the party presidency, insisted that his nomination proves his continued legitimacy within the party. He said the disagreement with Mao and his faction would not deter him from advancing DP’s values and representing his constituents.
He also highlighted key government projects that have benefited Bukoto Central during his tenure, including road construction, electrification, and water initiatives. “The Ministry of Works is working on Karumata-luregeya, among other roads, while the Ministry of Energy continues to extend electricity lines across the constituency,” he said.
Ssebamala further cited ongoing projects by the Ministry of Water and Environment in Kabuoko and interventions by Ministers Judith Nabakooba and Sam Mayanja on land issues.
He pledged to continue holding government accountable regardless of who becomes president after the 2026 General Election.
“It is the duty of a Member of Parliament to check government and ensure it delivers to its people. Whether it is the government of President Museveni, Kyagulanyi, or Nandala Mafabi, I will represent my people and advocate for more funding,” he said.
