“I would like to congratulate the Mother Church and all the Catholic faithful around the world on the election of our new leader, Pope Leo XIV,” the Speaker said. “I join everyone in thanking God Almighty for this important development and in praying for the Successor of St. Peter and the Bishop of Rome.”
Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, was elected by the College of Cardinals in a conclave held in the Sistine Chapel. He succeeds Pope Francis and is the first American-born Pope in the Church’s history. His election has been met with celebration from Catholics across the globe.
Speaker Among offered prayers for the new pontiff, asking for divine guidance as he begins his papal mission. “May your papacy be filled with exceptional wisdom, lasting peace, and God’s guiding hand. I pray that God grants him good health as he shepherds God’s people,” she added.
Among’s message adds to a wave of goodwill from leaders around the world who have welcomed the new Pope with hopes for continued moral leadership, interfaith dialogue, and global unity.
Pope Leo XIV is expected to officially begin his pontificate with an inaugural Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, followed by a formal installation at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome.
