Police in Kampala have launched a major investigation into Skypins Tours and Travel, a company accused of defrauding dozens of Ugandans with promises of overseas jobs, resulting in losses estimated at over UGX 500 million.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Skypins ran high-profile advertisements between 2022 and 2025 on radio, television, TikTok, and other social media platforms, enticing the public with opportunities to work in countries like Canada, the UK, Dubai, Qatar, and Luxembourg.

Victims were allegedly asked to pay half of the placement fee upfront, with the assurance that they would travel within two to six months on a loan-based arrangement. Payments reportedly ranged between UGX 3.5 million and UGX 10 million, depending on the contract.
Police say over 85 victims have so far recorded statements. Most payments were made at the company’s former offices at Haruna Mall in Ntinda, before the business relocated to Kitende along Entebbe Road.
The key suspect, Asiimwe Christian, also known as Don Chris, is currently on the run. Victims allege he has issued threats and intimidation when asked for refunds.
“Despite multiple demands for reimbursement, the company has remained silent, and the suspect has made threats instead,” said Onyango. He also revealed that Skypins is not licensed by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development as an external labour recruitment agency.
The matter came to light after frustrated victims sought help from the Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, who forwarded the case to the CID Commander KMP. A general inquiry file was opened on June 17, 2025, leading to a full investigation.
Police are now appealing to other victims who have not yet reported to immediately come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiries.
“The suspect is wanted. We urge the public to help us locate him and protect others from falling prey to similar scams,” Onyango stated.
