According to a statement from the Uganda Police Force, the crash occurred at around 11:30 a.m. when one motorcycle in the convoy, moving at high speed, rammed into a vehicle from behind. This triggered a chain reaction, causing multiple motorcycles to collide. A white Mitsubishi vehicle, registration number UAZ 064H, displaying campaign images of Kyagulanyi, was also involved in the crash after colliding with the motorcycles.

Police confirmed that the accident left several people nursing injuries. The injured were rushed to St. Francis Naggalama Hospital for treatment, while others with minor injuries left the scene on their own.

The injured persons were identified as Kewanza Bashir (27), Kakaire Bashir (35), Ssepereza Musa (40), Kisomba Michael (28), Ssewaya Eric (23), and Mutagubya Robert (24), most of whom were motorcycle riders and passengers.

Three motorcycles and one vehicle involved in the crash were towed to Naggalama Police Yard for inspection. Preliminary investigations point to reckless riding and driving as the likely cause of the accident.

Police also noted that earlier in the day, campaign posters bearing Kyagulanyi’s images had been placed in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic and endangering other road users.

The Force has since issued a strong warning to all political actors and their entourages to strictly observe traffic laws. “Irresponsible road use as demonstrated in this unfortunate incident, which caused multiple injuries, will not be tolerated,” the statement read.

Police added that strict measures will be enforced to prevent similar incidents during the election campaign period.
