The officer is accused of stealing building materials, including iron sheets, poles, and bags of cement, worth approximately UGX 17 million from a man identified as Kato Bumali. The incident allegedly occurred on February 10, 2023, at Kanaaba Zone, Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso District.
Despite several summonses by his superiors to address the allegations, SP Begira reportedly refused to respond, prompting his arrest and subsequent arraignment.
The court has remanded him until June 19, 2025, as investigations continue.
Authorities say the arrest underscores a growing commitment to tackling corruption and impunity within the police force and other public institutions.
