Police Recover SMG Rifle After Arrest of Livestock Theft Suspect in Nwoya

Police in Nwoya District have recovered a submachine gun (SMG) believed to have been used in criminal activities, following the arrest of a suspect involved in livestock theft.

The recovery followed an operation conducted on June 14, 2025, in Paminyai Subcounty. Acting on a tip from residents of Nyamukino and Gotapwoyo villages, police intercepted a white Ipsium vehicle, registration number UAP 032E, which was reportedly transporting 11 stolen goats.

The suspect, identified as Omony Dicken, 28, a broker from Pece-Laroo Division in Gulu City, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, Omony led police to the location of the SMG rifle, which was found hidden near an electric pole in Purongo Subcounty. The firearm was recovered without ammunition.

Police say the weapon had been used to terrorize residents in the area. Investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects and accomplices connected to the case.

The police thanked the local community for their cooperation and urged continued vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.
