A team of officers rushed to the scene and recovered the firearm, which was wrapped in a rotten sack. Police confirmed that the gun was rusty and had two live rounds of ammunition.
“The serial number has not yet been established due to the rusting, suggesting that the gun had been hidden for a long time,” said SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson.
She added that investigations are ongoing to determine the type and source of the firearm, as well as to identify and apprehend suspects linked to its concealment.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or individuals in their communities as part of efforts to strengthen security.
