Police in Njeru are investigating a hit-and-run accident in which an 85-year-old woman was seriously injured along the Nyenga–Njeru Road on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Kiryowa Village when a motorcycle, registration number UG 3102092 (UG Boss Silver), knocked the pedestrian as she attempted to cross the road. The rider fled the scene and has not yet been identified.

The victim, Mary Ameke, a resident of Kiryowa, was rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson SP Hellen Butoto said the motorcycle, which belongs to government, has been impounded and is currently parked at Njeru Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
“The hunt for the rider is ongoing as inquiries continue,” she said.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information regarding the suspect to come forward.
