According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the robberies occurred on January 6, 2026, prompting a coordinated police response involving officers from Ntinda and Kiwatule police stations.
The first incident was reported at about 9:00 pm in Nsimbiziwome, where a teacher, identified as Kasasa Patrick, was attacked by a gang of assailants riding on motorcycles. The attackers robbed him of a Samsung Galaxy phone, a second-generation Chromebook, a Dell laptop, and a Galaxy tablet, all valued at about Shs4 million.
Barely an hour later, at around 9:50 pm, two additional robberies were reported in Kigowa along Valley Road. A businesswoman, Namaganda Shadia, was robbed of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, an Itel button phone, her National Identification Card, and cash, with the total value estimated at Shs3.5 million.
In a separate but related incident at the same location, a driver, Musobya Bosco, was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy phone, a wallet containing his driving permit and National ID, as well as cash valued at about Shs420,000.
Police said officers promptly visited and documented all the crime scenes before launching a pursuit along the Northern Bypass, aided by information from members of the public.
During the operation, police intercepted one suspect, identified as Joseph Wataba, who was allegedly found in possession of a panga. According to police, the suspect attempted to attack officers and was neutralised before being arrested.
Wataba was later taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention and is expected to be charged once he recovers.
Police recovered a motorcycle registration number UMA 582HF, a panga, and a Galaxy tablet believed to have been stolen during the robberies. Other suspects involved in the attacks managed to flee.
ASP Owoyesigyire said investigations are continuing to track down the remaining suspects and recover additional stolen property.
